It's the most-requested India itinerary for a reason — and the easiest one to undersell with a rushed schedule.
Why it's still the standard first-timer route
For most Australian clients, the Golden Triangle — Delhi, Agra, Jaipur — is the entry point into India. It's compact, delivers the landmarks people already picture (the Taj Mahal chief among them), and is forgiving of a first-time traveller's nerves. The mistake agents make most often isn't picking the wrong route — it's compressing it too tightly.
How much time it actually needs
Six days is workable if the client is time-constrained, but seven to eight lets each city breathe — particularly Jaipur, which gets rushed more than the other two. Agra is usually one full day plus a sunrise visit; anything longer there is generally wasted unless the client has a specific interest in Mughal architecture beyond the Taj itself.
Extending beyond the Triangle
The most natural extensions are Ranthambore (wildlife, roughly two nights) tacked onto the Jaipur leg, or Kerala as a relaxation-focused closing chapter. Both work well as a "would you also like to see..." upsell once the core itinerary is agreed, rather than presented as options from the first quote.
