A lakeside city mirroring the Annapurna range, and the launch point for Nepal's most popular treks.
Pokhara sits roughly 200 km west of Kathmandu on the shore of Phewa Lake, with the dramatic, sacred Machapuchare ("Fishtail") peak and the wider Annapurna range rising directly behind it. Considerably lower and warmer than the high mountains it looks out on, it functions as the main gateway town for Annapurna region trekking as well as a relaxed lakeside destination in its own right.
