During this Covid-19 crisis, the Ministry of Tourism takes an initiative to showcase India’s rich heritage for visitors and tourists. Under the campaign Dekho Apna Desh, a webinar titled ‘Mysuru: Craft Caravan of Karnataka’ was organised which offered an engaging and experiential tour of various crafts such as Channapatna Toys, Rosewood inlay craft that has been thriving for centuries around the city of Mysuru.
This was the 19th session of Dekho Apna Desh webinar and was presented by Ms. Susan Thomas, Director, NIFT, Bengaluru Dr. YathindraLakkanna, Faculty NIFT Bengaluru, and Ms. Shipra Roy, Faculty NIFT Bengaluru. The webinar actually showcased and featured the rich crafts and handlooms which India is rich in. The webinar was like a narrative organised to build craft tourism and offer a hand of help to home-grown craft and help it to find a respective place on the tourist map. The webinar also displayed various experiences for the visitors visiting Mysuru such as explore the towns and villages of craftspeople. These craftspeople are the ones who has preserved and nurtured various crafts of Mysuru through all these years.
